Kick-off
What do you have for lunch on a school day? What do you think American high school students eat for lunch? Write down your ideas, then listen to MaKrae talking about what she eats at school.
MaKrae: OK, so we’re at lunch right now in the cafeteria. And what you do before this is you go through a line and you get your tray, and then you have a choice of like … There’s two hot options and then you can have an option of making a sandwich, or sometimes they’ll have parfaits. And then there’ll be an extra hot option in case you don’t like anything that’s out.
And then they have like a bar of sides and extras, and then there’s like a cooler with vitamin waters and stuff like that. And then once you get to the check-outs they have like Rice Crispy treats and stuff like that that you can pay extra for.
And you have a … student ID card …
Claire: (mumbles)
MaKrae: D’you take it? … OK, and uh … It will either have your picture on it, or it won’t, depending if you have your new one or your old one. And … you scan it under a little price scanner, and then it’s around two dollars for your meal.
This is my friend Claire’s. This is what they look like. And then you put them, you can put them on a lanyard, or bedazzle them, and … you just keep it around you at all times. And then it’s around two dollars for your lunch and then for like stuff like this you have to pay extra. And then you can go and sit with all your friends or sit by anyone you want really. And that’s about it.
